Ghosts of Pain (6)
There beat a heart whose life was grown
A thing by Grief made all its own;
Which felt Affliction's heavy power,
Each minute of each weary hour;
-- Caroline Clive. Amiable Death.
They made her a grave, too cold and damp
For a soul so warm and true;
And she's gone to the Lake of the Dismal Swamp,
Where, all night long, by a firefly lamp,
he paddles her white canoe.
-- Thomas Moore. The Lake Of The Dismal Swamp.
